...and his head and his spleen and a few other organs.
Apparently George Bush has been going around telling Americans that 220 days ago John Kerry went on Hardball and declared himself "The Anti-War candidate". Additionally, the GOP has taken a piece of the interview and included it in a lie-u-mentary that it is mailing to the brain-washed. (You can view the horror at http://www.gop.com/) In the Matthews clip, Kerry is asked if he is one of the anti-war candidates (along with Clark and Dean) and Kerry appears to say, "Uh, yes."
The President's is using this statement in a desperate attempt to play the "he's a wimp, I'm the only one who can keep you safe" card along with the "John Kerry is a flip-flopping fool" card.
Only... none of it's true.
Matthews did ask Kerry if he was one of the anti-war candidates and Kerry did say, "Uh, I am, yes," but allowing the tape to continue Kerry goes on to say, "...in the sense that I don't believe the President took us to war as he should have, yes absolutely. Do I think this President violated his promises to the American people, yes, I do Chris. Was there a way to hold Saddam Hussein's feet to the fire. Yes, and we should have done it."
It may not be your or my view on the war, but it is strong... clear... CONSISTENT WITH WHAT HE'S SAID ALL ALONG. I voted to give the President the authority to pressure Saddam into relenting, believing the PResident would do everything in his power to send our troops into harms way. The President did not. The President rushed to war. I think that's wrong."
What's best about all this is that Chris Matthews brought Matthew Dowd (along with Tad Devine) to LAMBASTE him for taking Kerry's words out of context. Over and over again he said, are you going to show the President what Kerry actually said and get the President to adjust his remarks. Time after time, Matthew Dowd screamed and sweated like a pig.
Oh, look, it's Dowd's pancreas... his small intestine... his SOUL.
No, never mind. He's clearly had his soul removed.
